Aim of the promo tour is to attract attention of tourists from Belarus and its close neighbours to water routes in the cross-border tourist region Bella Dvina which includes Vitebsk region and Latgale (Latvia). Overall length of the promo route is about 150 km. Members of the tour team will include project experts from Belarus and Latvia, as well as representatives of the Delegation of European Commission in Belarus, and mass media.
The team will start from Polotsk on 25 May, at 13.00. During the first day, the team will travel down the Dvina up to Novopolotsk, and second day of their journey will end in Disna. On the third day, members of the tour will travel up to the village Yustiyanovo. On the fourth day, the team will pass through Verhnedvinsk, Leonpol, will cross the border in Grigorovschina (Patarnieki) and will arrive in Piedruja. In the next two days, members of the tour will visit Gandeli and Kraslava. Promotional tour will end on 30 May in the village Slutiški. Here, in the Daugavas Loki Natural Park, international festival of folk art “Augšdaugava 2010” will take place. Part of the route from Verhnedvinsk to Slutiški belongs to the new cross-border water route “From the labyrinth of lakes to the beautiful Dvina” which has been developed this year, also as part of the Bella Dvina project. The route has been planned so as to give canoe tourists a chance not only to enjoy the beauties of the river, but also to see certain places of interest in the Vitebsk region and Latgale. After the promotional tour, detailed articles and reports will be published; with their help, any tourist will be able to plan his or her own trip down the Dvina in the coming tourist season.
During the tour, meetings with local media will take place in Polotsk, Disna, Verhnedvinsk and Kraslava. Local residents, tourist agencies and all interested stakeholders are also invited. Members of the tour will share their impressions about covered parts of the route; here you will also learn about other routes of the Bella Dvina tourist regions, get promotional materials and souvenirs.
Bella Dvina project is implemented within the EU programme “Baltic Sea Region” INTERREG IIIB – Neighbourhood Programme INTERREG IIIA – Priority “South”. The programme aims to support cross-border cooperation between the border regions of Belarus, Latvia and Lithuania. Overall objective of the project is to contribute to development of tourism in the border regions of Belarus and Latvia through creation of a common cross-border tourist space along the Western Dvina / Daugava.
