Negotiations on visas underway to ease Belarus-EU travels

Belarus is negotiating the possibility of simplifying visa requirements with the European Union countries. The information was released by Mr Andrei Savinykh, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, who took part in the third international forum Belarus Image: Time to Act on 6 December
According to the Press Secretary, negotiations are now underway to discuss the possibility of facilitating visa procedures to ease travels between Belarus and the European Union countries, the countries where Belarusian tourists prefer spending their vacations. The official said that decisions on facilitating or lifting visa requirements have to be made on both sides.

Andrei Savinykh also said that in addition to enabling more favorable entry terms for foreigners it is necessary to improve the tourism product in Belarus. He believes that new tourism routes should be developed, the quality of tourism services should be improved, thus increasing the country’s appeal to foreign travelers.

Mr Vadim Karmazin, Director of the Tourism Department of the Sports and Tourism Ministry, remarked that terms of presence will be improved for foreign tourists in Belarus. In particular, the Tax Free system (a mechanism to return the value added tax from purchases made by foreigners in Belarus) will be introduced on 1 January 2013. The Sports and Tourism Ministry has declared the year 2013 the Year of Green Tourism. “We’ve decided to focus our attention on promoting ecological, green tourism,” remarked Vadim Karmazin. Besides, there are plans to more actively popularize the 2014 world ice hockey championship.
